Since January 2009, the CO2 emissions produced by EasyDrop (Itacaré Viagens Ltda) have been systematically monitored and compensated through the re-florestation of the Rain Forest in the region of Itacaré.
The mentor of this program, the philanthropic organization “Movimento Mecenas da Vida” (www.mecenasdavida.org.br), created a “Carbon Social Fund” that is maintained by enterprises that have joined the project in order to neutralize their emissions. The monthly contribution is calculated using the real carbon emissions of each company, based on garbage production, electric energy consumption, natural gas consumption, fuel consumption and trips made by each company.
The funds raised by the “Carbon Social Fund” are used in the development of a project that works with traditional agricultural families in the Itacaré/Serra Grande APA (Environmental Protection Area).
Besides the technical support and the monitoring of their areas, the families also receive a “Conservation Stipend” to take care of their forests and to produce and look after the tree saplings planted in the degraded areas in their properties.
We neutralize!
Better yet, the activities of this program not only guarantee that the quantities of the carbon sequestered by the growth of the planted saplings corresponds to the carbon emission of the participating company, but also that the re-foresting is sustainable in the long-run, helping families involved in reaching economic independence from the commercialization of the trees cut in the forest, which today is the main factor of commercialization of the wood in the region.
The program’s objective is to transform the Itacaré/Serra Grande Environmental Protection Area into a model tourist destination that neutralizes and reduces the CO2, uniting environmental conservation with social-economic development of the traditional agricultural families.
Besides monitoring and neutralizing our own carbon gas emissions, we are also offering our clients the opportunity to neutralize the emissions produced during their trip to EasyDrop through this program.
For such, we have a table available to calculate the volume of carbon gas emitted during your way in and out of Itacaré, and also during your stay.
Your contribution is reverted in full towards the “Carbon Social Fund”, and you as contributor receive a t-shirt that identifies you as a conscious tourist who compensated your carbon gas emissions.
